Short summary

At Osborne House, Albert relishes the opportunity to instruct the family away from London, but Victoria is desperate to get back to the Palace and the business of politics.

The Cholera outbreak actually occurred in 1854 not 1849.

There is no historical record of Franchetteli ever being married. Furthermore once he left the service of Queen Victoria he managed the St. James Club, he did not open his own hotel until a couple of years before his death in 1876.

All the principles have left London. Initially it was for safety's sake. Palmerston is invited there by the Queen, mainly to make him uncomfortable. He is a womanizer and this leads to some problems. But he is not alone in duplicity. The Queen's sister is a master and she is working her position to her advantage The pretty young duchess is doing her own thing. She is starved for affection and sex, hating her domineering husband. Finally, Victoria and Albert are in a power struggle. It primarily relates to his efforts to get Bertie (the next king) to be more than a silly child. The boy is not interested in his studies and only wants to play. We are also made aware that his eyesight is poor. Good insights into the people rather than any dramatic events.
