Sure the movie has a beginning, middle and ending. But the tempo of the movie kind of leads you to think there is something more to be expected but the relationships are just depicted in a very perfunctory manner.

And description of the plot is misleading a tad. There is no layer under layer complexity of deception here. Just a couple of lies and the lies are not what causes the misfortune here. THe movie starts off with an affair and that is pretty much the extent of deception here. (not really a spoiler, but I figured I would mention it as a spoiler in case people expect something that this movie is not).

The acting is average with a couple of awkward roles for the American actors - one of them a bloated Furlong.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The locations were beautiful and looked very authentic for the period the movie was portraying. And frankly the movie provided the viewer with some insight and understanding of the history of the Mexican national drink tequila. I loved the actors, filming, and the screen play. I felt is was a very well produced movie with an effective director orchestrating it all. Though the movie was based on a tragic love story you followed the actors through that day in their lives including the humorous and sad moments that they experienced, which only made it feel more believable. I found the movie captured my interest immediately, and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the plot played itself out.

The passion, tragedy and drama as ever was in the Golden Cine Mexicano. Sergio Suarez film surprised me since I saw the first cut, I can even say that all who were present at that first screening (including who would later be responsible for the score, Carlos Silotto), we knew we were facing a film that would to talk about. The perfect arrangement of its moments of drama, tension and even a pinch of humor of certain episodes, achieve an honest job, entertaining and essential to be seen by those who appreciate good films. Tequila, the drink, is undoubtedly a symbol of pride and national Mexican identity, a thing that a proud Mexican show off every where, and I'm sure the same thing will happen with the film. As with the drink, the film will make, after tasting it, the viewer goes out from the theatre with a very happy soul.
