A history of 'unkindness' on both sides of a relationship is the core of this sonnet, and there is a sense of pain and regret within the text. This is played out nicely in this short film version; we see the couple coming together with the man forced to acknowledge his infidelities in the past, now that he understands his part in pushing his partner to her own 'unkind' infidelity. The delivery of the text is well managed across these events, and Franz has done a good job constructing and delivering a bigger story within the context of the text. The performance from the cast is also good – with the male lead in particular managing to make the text part of his character rather than something being delivered for the benefit of the camera (and good ADR work helps keep the text in the scene).

It is perhaps a bit overly dramatic with the use of music, but still the film has that sadness and shared regret, and I liked the feeling at the end that tears and anger had passed and that the relationship only had mutual sadness and regret – a nice ending which is allowed to linger after the text is finished.
