Short summary

Gaius, a gardener on the estate of the beautiful Lucia, has fallen in love with her. His sister Rosa encourages him to pursue Lucia. Gaius finally decides to propose to Lucia, but sees her embracing her English fiancé. Heartbroken, he tells Rosa what happened. Rosa wants to kill both Lucia and her lover, but Gaius forbids it. So Rosa asks Tony, her own lover, to kill the Englishman. She tells Tony that the Englishman has insulted her, and plans for Tony to meet the Englishman at a summer house and kill him. Rosa writes two letters, one to the Englishman to meet her at the summer house, and one to Gaius to be nearby, and signs them both as Lucia. But the messenger transposes the letters, and Gaius goes to the summer house. Tony, thinking that Gaius is the Englishman, kills him.

A visualization that is most egregious in its plot. Inconsistencies seem to be the main feature. By a combination of circumstances and a mixing of notes a man who plots to have his rival killed is himself stabbed by mistake. Only a fair offering. - The Moving Picture World, August 29, 1914
