In Search Of... "Laugh Therapy" (1980)

Here's another rather mediocre episode for the series. This one here basically asks if laughing is a form of healing and if major diseases can be destroyed simply by a person laughing. Fans of the series are bound to be letdown by this episode because there's just nothing overly interesting here. I mean, the idea that being in a good mood or laughing at something might help get your mind off something but I found the theories here to be a bit too far fetched for their own good. It really doesn't help that it's presented in such a boring way.

Oh dear...to every great series one dud must fall it seems, and that dud in question is this: Nothing wrong with the premise, but the trouble is that the material shown just isn't funny, but embarrassing, and the execution is incredibly sloppy, as if it was thrown together in a hurry. Also, in a most atypical fashion, it's visually ugly, with no style or appeal. The end result is at best frivolous, and at worst an abject waste of time, when other subjects would have made worthier topics, some not even used later. Really, for a show that I love and re-watch often, this is the one entry that I skip. Well-intentioned, but a failure.

Surprisingly good! Can laughing help your health. Laughing boost the immune system. Chemicals released form laughing help the body. The general disposition of happier people tend to be more healthy. Two people are interviewed. A man who was about to die booked a room and watched funny movies recovers. A man creates laughter for sick children. There could be something here with health and humor! I believe in body, mind, spirit are interconnected. One effects the other. If the mind and spirit are healthy/positive there should be an effect on the body. Some of the skits are over the top. Not the most serious episode at points. But that was the episodes intention. Laughing is not serious but healthy. 7 laughs out of 10. The narrator loved doing this episode.
