In 1943 Rome, young Guido has just finished film school and is now directing his first feature film for a major studio. As Guido struggles to communicate with his elitist actress, guide his crew, satisfy his studio executive and still try to fulfill his grand vision, he begins to re- consider the actual meaning and purpose of his film, questioning if he himself even comprehends it, nonetheless-if he can even direct it.

Shot entirely in one day (11 hours) and in one location.

The film was shot at the church across the street from the Director's apartment.

The singing of Sophia in the final scene was recorded separately in post-production by the courtesy of the film's Director of Photography, Golnar Fakhrai.

In the film Guido struggled with the loss of time, light as well as other production restraints. The Director Drue Metz shared the same conflicts on set as he had to cut one-third of the original script to save enough time to shoot the final outdoor scenes and finish the film.

Only three of the actors spoke fluent Italian: Alberto Zeni, Graciela Schreiber and Leandra Terrazzano.

In the scene that Guido fights off his crew with the bull whip, it is actually the Director Drue Metz walking along side the camera and whipping his actors.

Although Metz states that he was discouraged by some professors that he would not be able to get the rights to the original "8 1/2" score by Nino Rota, after working with C.A.M.s.r.l in Rome and explaining his desire to pay homage to Fellini, they were happy to collaborate.
