» » Утиные истории The Living Mummies of Toth-Ra! (2017– )

Short summary

In a lost pyramid, the gang must help a group of living mummies escape from their mysterious deity, Toth-Ra.

Toth and Ra are the names of Egyptian gods with bird faces (Toth an ibis and Ra a falcon respectively), which fits with the Disney ducks.

Scrooge calls the Bandaged Pharaoh Monster as it comes to life a "Bandaged Bampot", which is Scottish slang meaning "A foolish and objectionable person". He said something similar to a Mummy in the episode "Sphinx for Memories" in the Original Pardilood (1987) where he called it a "Bandaged Brute".

The fact of Sabaf controlling the Pharaoh as a Puppet is similar to how the Title Character of Võlur Oz (1939) had been controlled.

Dewey and the "mummies" briefly dance in a way reminiscent of Michael Jackson's Michael Jackson: Thriller (1983) video.

Cree Summer previously voiced Kida in Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), in which she also represented a lost culture that had been existing secretly for centuries.

I honestly do not know why this episode is ranked amongst the top of the batch. There was literally ZERO tension in the episode, with Launchpad's idiotic antics forcing comedy down our throats. His antics are tolerable in other episodes, but here it robs the episode of any gravitas and drama.

Also, this episode can just be skipped entirely. It doesn't link to any of the overarching plots of the show, and degrades some of Louie's previous character development. Seriously, is it that hard to link it to the Magica or Della subplots? Especially since this episode had magical elements and the word "mummies" in the title, there could've been something hinting at Magica, or a clue to further the Della plot - if the writers were more competent. But this time around, they were incompetent, and the result is the series' equivalent of Avatar's "The Great Divide".

An entirely useless episode which one can skip with NO problems whatsoever.

"Jaws", "Terror of the Terra-firmians", and "The Other Bin of Scrooge McDuck" are much better episodes.

While I'm still going to say the two part introduction was still the best, this may be a close second. This episode features Scrooge and the gang going to find treasure in an Egyptian pyramid. This is probably the episode that reverts best to the original "DuckTales" series. It's hard to top the first episodes that featured them going to Atlantis. I KNEW that was Cree Summer as the voice of the head mummy. Well, the characters dressed as mummies anyway. I remember recently learning about Fred Tatascoire as one of the most prolific voice actors. It's funny how I hadn't heard of him before.

The awesome thing is that the villain is the pharaoh Toth-Ra, whom we all recognize as being from the intro to the show! It's great to see characters from there show up. I thought it would just be a character created for that but instead they really put him into the show. This doesn't feature Scrooge's mansion at all which works perfectly for something different for the show. Webby is easily the best character in the series and all of her dialogue and actions are awesome. I remember Doug Walker saying the new episodes weren't that good, but this turns it around! ****
