Short summary

George-Michael thinks he's being lied to by Michael, who thinks he's being lied to by George Sr. Gob hires guys to help with his "closet conversation."

This marks the first, and so far, only, time the word "f*ck" is unbleeped. On Michael (Jason Bateman)'s Prismo, the A.I. interface asks Michael how "Mom's f*cking cottage" was.

A closed 90 Minute Tooth dentists' office can be seen next to the Laguna Closet Conversions shop. GOB (Will Arnett) actually predicted its closure in episode 5.4, Arrested Development: An Old Start (2018).

Portia de Rossi quit acting in the middle of 2017, but Mitchell Hurwitz convinced her to work on a story line for Lindsay, and agreed to be on 5 episodes of season 5.

A callback to episode 3.5, Arrested Development: Mr. F (2005) - The English-speaking Mexican banditos "MRF" return, with MRF revealing to stand for "Mexican Romney Family".

A Blendin Home Decor store is located next to the Laguna Closet Conversions shop. "Blendin" is the fake company name that the government goes by when attempting to bug the Bluth Company.

The "Coincidence" singer/musical sting from episodes 4.3, Arrested Development: Indian Takers (2013), and 4.5, Arrested Development: A New Start (2013), returns when George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) surmises that Oscar (Jeffrey Tambor) started consuming the maca root that was located downhill from the commode in Father B's Executive Retreat.

While the old Arrested Development is hard to recapture, after a progressively better story arc the season hits its stride with a perfect accumulation of chaos at the end of the episode that is reminiscent of its groundbreaking early years, and leaves viewers for the first time in the season wanting more and excited for the next episode.

    Arrested Development

Arrested Development is another take on dysfunctional family; created by Mitchell Hurwitz, with lots of twists and turns and mystery that helps kick the series into another level and stand alone. The narration by Ron Howard that guides the viewers is actually a smarter concept that it actually seems, since the makers doesn't feel the need to explain the situation and momentum through cheesy and additional dialogues; a slick move.

It is short on technical aspects like cinematography, background score and art design although the camera work is plausible and is shot beautifully with pleasing, light and breezy environment.

The writing is strong in terms of the material offered especially since it doesn't feel the urge to push boundaries just to crack a smile, and instead focuses on the irony of it and lets it flow fluently with well barred structure. The amusing concept, enfolding tricks, gripping screenplay, parallel sub-plots that are well edited which later merges in brilliantly are some of the high points of the series.

There is also a lot of going on in mere 20 minutes for the audience to let it sink in which may seem overstuffed at times but it does the work which is to keep the audience tangled into it. The characters are more mature and pragmatic than the audience usually gets in a sitcom where they might not be lovable or even likable at times, but their humane-ness keeps the viewers rooting for them.

The performance is somewhat fragile in here since the protagonist Jason Bateman is in his A game but unfortunately isn't supported to that extent by its supporting cast (Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi and David Cross).

    Season 05

The fifth act resembles a lot to the earlier acts of the series but is still more mature and sensible than it, as it doesn't spend its time focusing on drawing out laughs and instead offers concrete material that is at times poetic, metaphorical and though-provoking which isn't something one usually gets from a sitcom.

    Rom-Traum

A brilliant act created and executed by the makers especially the theme of the episode which was kept common and similar for the audience to be easily open to it and communicate fluently with enough sketchy sequences to draw in the laughs.

The Gob bit with the closet store was genius and the show needs to explore that more than it is getting.

But dial back on the scenes with the group of horsemen at the border. I'm not sure what they are going for, but it is not funny.
