Short summary

Primary school student Keita Amano's curiosity is as innocent as any other child's his age. But when one day he decides to venture deeper into the forest, he encounters a small and mysterious capsule. Out from its depths comes Whisper. After 190 years of imprisonment, this ghost-like creature is glad that someone has been kind enough to set him free. He decides to reward Keita by becoming his guardian against supernatural forces. I consider any Yokai Watch review with clear Pokemon bias to be un-trustable.

There's a plenty of good things I find with the anime. Lots of the characters are very charming and have personality in them. The situations Nate gets in is pretty funny as well as the side stories with Yokai. Surprisingly there's lots of pop culture and references adults would get as you watch more episodes.

People of all ages can enjoy this. I have watched the anime and over 100 episodes now and I love it! Give it a watch with an open mind, and you will find something surprisingly good.

I have never seen the Asian Dub of Yo-Kai Watch but I know it is the same. Just see my read my review for the English dub I can't be asked to write a whole review on this. It is my first review on IMDb.

But the only thing I don't like about this show is the characters follow their Japanese names instead of their English, for example, Nate is called Kaita and Katie is called Fumi I just find it weird, okay and most of the voice actors come out as annoying or miscast.

Like I said on the English dub the people who call this show a Pokemon Ripoff just can't expect another franchise which is similar.

This shouldn't come as a surprise, given that this was worked on by OLM Inc. the exact same company that worked on the Pokemon anime. This wouldn't bug me, had it not been for the fact that this and Pokemon are quite similar to one another. Each centers around a male youth who could summon monsters, with said monsters being of the quirky, cute (and marketable) variety.

The reason Pokemon worked was because, along with beating Yo-Kai to the punch, they maintained an atmosphere with memorable characters, moments and better looking creatures. With Yo-Kai, none of the monsters look too interesting or memorable, the Japanese lore they include in this doesn't mean that much, and overall, it just doesn't work for anyone who is above the age of four.

I say that because the atmosphere looks like it panders to young viewers exclusively (hence those exercise videos that are posted on the Yo-Kai YouTube channel. You could watch the show, but you would just be wasting your time if you want to find something of interest.

    Stick with Pokemon.
