The experimental drama 'Buckeye' is a disturbing consideration of the beauty and violence in nature. Shot on location in Novato, California (23 miles or so north of San Francisco), 'Buckeye' centers around a beautiful buckeye tree standing alone on a golden, grassy hillside. As an abusive husband and his wife hike near the tree, it seems to exert a provocative influence on their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Ultimately, the wife must find the courage to leave and the husband the courage to change. 'Buckeye' won a Members Award at the 20th Scary Cow Independent Film Festival on July 3, 2013.

Stark, dark images and raw, visceral emotions. The film brings up a range of real emotions about relationships, verbal communication and the toll verbal abuse can take on people's psyche.

A man and a woman on a day hike in a sprawling, sparsely wooded park set out to encounter nature but instead confront each other head on. The anger and resentment is palpable.

Film maker Michael Mesmer peeks behind the words and the visual cues we share with our loved ones - and those we may have learned to hate.

Musically evocative score that extends the tension in an already strained relationship. Visually compelling and beautifully shot.
