Short summary

West Indies, the dominating cricket team of the 1980's took on the Rest of the World team which included players from England, Australia, India, Zimbabwe, South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan. The match was a charity event for Bob Geldof's Sport Aid, to raise money for Africa. The match itself was rained off after the West Indies went to bat and started with a good run rate. In the end it was a no result.

The West Indies XI chose to bat and before the rain washed the charity match they had scored 78-1 off 13 overs and 3 balls. Gordon Greenidge scored 11 before Ian Botham got him out. Richie Richardson scored 39 not out and Clive Lloyd scored 21 not out.

Viv Richards was captain of the West Indies XI team. David Gower was captain of the Rest of the World XI.

10,000 people attended the Cricket match in Birmingham and £150,000 was raised for Sportaid.

The Rest of the World XI team contained 3 players from England, 3 players from India, 1 player from Australia, 1 player from Pakistan, 1 player from New Zealand, 1 player from South Africa and 1 player from Zimbabwe.
