The baby daughter of Mrs. Norton, a widowed seamstress, dies. The sorrow-stricken mother gazes at the empty cradle and decides to replace the departed soul with an orphan child upon whom she can lavish the love, the rightful object of which the Great Giver and Taker has taken from her. This is a very good picture; it interests deeply. Two twins are orphans and are adopted, the one by a good woman who is poor, the other by a woman of culture and refinement and wealth. The inheritance of both is, presumably, the same. The environment, after a number of years, seems to have made of one, the poor girl, a fine character, and of the other, show has been pampered by money, a peevish and headstrong girl. One hardly suspects that the same actress is playing both parts. There is nothing in the picture that is more unreasonable than are incidents in some of Shakespeare's plays; but it has a few faults. The chief of these seems to be the unnaturalness of one girl's being restrained form going to her foster mother. The automobile accident is a "made-up" scene, but it made a woman in the audience scream when it happened. - The Moving Picture World, July 1, 1911
