Short summary
Although originally released in 2-strip Technicolor, the film only survives in black and white.
The musical play opened on Broadway in New York City, New York, USA on 25 September 1905 and closed 16 June 1906 after 202 performances. After the hot summer months, it reopened on 1 September 1906 for another 22 performance. Considered a big hit, it went on tour for 3 years.
In September 1928, Warner Bros. Pictures purchased a majority interest in First National Pictures and from that point on, all "First National" productions were actually made under Warner Bros. control, even though the two companies continued to retain separate identities until the mid-1930's, after which time "A Warner Bros.-First National Picture" was often used.

Completed in 1930, and reviewed in Photoplay Magazine in August 1930 as _Toast of the Legion_, the film did not open in New York City until 7 January 1931.
