National water skiing champion Linda Day (as Linda Granville) is visiting the beach. Sandy (Luke Halpin) is particularly enthusiastic about meeting the young blonde, and takes a present to her. She rejects the present, but Flipper throws it back. Sandy, Bud (Tommy Norden), and Ricks (Brian Kelly) learn that Ms. Day has suffered a disabling motorboat accident, and is in a wheelchair. A talk with her mother Diana Douglas (as Mrs. Granville) reveals the former champion is, additionally, so despondent she has lost the will to live. When Hurricane Emma (the first of the season) threatens Coral Key, the wheelchair-bound Day refuses to evacuate. As the Hurricane hits, Sandy and Ricks must rescue the Granvilles!

Linda Day stands out this episode, especially when pulled out of the water, soaking wet. Later, the actress will change her name to "Linda Day George" (after marrying Christopher George). Hurricane Emma is also exciting; though, considerably less so than the Coral Key Hurricane of '63 (which introduced Flipper to Sandy).

I enjoyed this episode. It features fascinating footage with the key characters replicating the force of a hurricane that seemed very realistic. It is interesting to watch how Sandy handles the awkward situation of finding out his water skiing idol (perhaps even crush) Linda is incapacitated. There is an air of kind innocence with children and some teenagers in these situations. Despite a rocky start of Porter trying to forcibly remove Linda from the beach, the Ricks family and Flipper do much to rescue Linda from her despair.

The hurricane's arrival harks back to the dramatic scenes that kick off the original Flipper movie and is a reminder that southern Florida is a risky place to live. The rescue scene seems very realistic and the need to warn visitors and locals of the perils of tropical storms and hurricanes is an integral part of Porter's job; a task he often trusts his boys to help him with.

This is yet another story about a girl who was living high on fame before an accident happened. After the accident, she felt worthless and broken. She is in self-pity so deep that even an approaching hurricane cannot convince her to think of somebody but herself.

In most cases like this, a person enters this person's life and changes their attitude with a few words. But no words are spoken that helps this girl. Instead, she is warmed up by one friendly dolphin who doesn't allow her to give up. Linda soon finds Flipper in trouble, but can she help him?

Though the whole point of Linda jumping into the water, I suppose, was so she could feel something in her legs, there was really no point in her jumping in to help Sandy with Flipper that I saw. Of course, Linda did play great at the part she was given...
