Short summary

When Francesca returns to New York for a month, Dev plays tour guide and finds himself caught in a whirlwind of confusing emotions.

This episode is an hour long pastiche to the film L'Avventura (1960). with scenes also mirroring 8½ (1963) and Сладкая жизнь (1960).

The song playing while Francesca and Dev are dancing at his apartment is "Guarda Come Dondolo" by Edoardo Vianello from 1962.

The episode title refers to a 1977 song by Lucio Battisti and the film created in its honor, Amarsi un po'... (1984). It means "To love yourself/each other a little."

Unlike most episodes, this one is shot in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio to better give it a more cinematic feel.

The song playing in the bar when Dev is talking to Francesca is "Mystery of Love" by Mr. Fingers, a song heavily sampled in the song "Fade" by Kanye West. Ansari is an avid fan of Kanye West and has described his friendship with him during his standup.

This episode is approximately half an hour longer than a regular episode

Aziz Ansari reached a new summit in the quality of his writing and directing with this episode. It is one of the most touching, can't-stop-smiling episodes I've watched. I bet this is how people felt when they watched Sleepless in Seattle or Love, Actually in the theater when it came out. This episode and the next one (2.10) alone made of Master of None one of my top 3 all-time favorites on Netflix, ever. This has, somehow, to be rewarded by the community with an Emmy, Golden Globe, whatever.

I am not sure how to phrase this. But it's a special episode. It's intense, deep and sooo intimate that I was pulled into it entirely. I guess the Charme and beauty of Alessandra does its part as well.

It was not overly dramatic. Not overly cheesy. And that's probably it. Close enough to reality and yet magical.

I think every reviewer on IMDb started their first review after watching something that blew their mind in a way that they feel an urge to write about it. As my first review, I think I find mine. Season two of master of none is superb and each episode is a joy to watch. The whole season is a triumph in acting, writing, cinematography and of course, comedy. But the pre-finale episode is just something that cannot be put into words. "curry people" will make you laugh, storm king scenery will blew you away, pulp fiction themed scene will make you wanna dance, and the chemistry between the characters will make you love them even more. It's really hard to stand-out among ten perfectly made episodes. You owe this show to yourself!

Imagine this was a real scenario.

A woman is engaged. She regularly texts another guy, flirtatiously, sometimes even when she's with her man.

She goes to this guy's house while her fiancè isn't there and cuddles up under a blanket with him watching a movie.

She sleeps in his bed. She prances around his apartment with no pants and nothing but his shirt on, then she goes back to his bed and he joins her.

Then she tells him to get under the sheets because it's "cold outside".

If this were a real scenario...you already know what she'd be called. I get that Pino may not be the greatest guy - he's all tied up with work - but he's not some abuser or woman beater either. He's still her fiancè.

Otherwise it was a good episode and was beautifully shot, as almost all the M.o.N episodes are.

But I did find it interesting how in a real world example, 9 out of 10 people would frown on a woman doing that while she was engaged (and a guy entertaining it knowing she's engaged), yet in the show, because it's Francesca & Dev, people root for them.

Finally, this episode was double the length but wasn't half as funny as they went for a serious approach to the story.

So all in all it was probably my least favorite/least rewatchable episode of the series, but it doesn't spoil an otherwise great season and great show.

I've been mesmerized with this entire (second) season of the masterful Master of None, but this was the type of episode you just didn't want to see end. After some amazing episodes earlier in the season that built to this story line, Master of None decided to challenge the theme of unrequited sitcom love in a special expanded hour-long episode that never strays too far from the anticipated (Ross and Rachel) moment of will Dev and Francesca realize they need to be together. Along the way we're treated as the audience to a build-up of what Master of None does so well - salutes to food, travel, friendship, emojis and New York City. The episode combined just the right amounts of intelligent humor, powerful dialogue, travelogue visuals (Storm King Art Center in upstate New York, NYC streets in the middle of a snowstorm and some night shots of NYC on a helicopter tour being the highlights) and romantic build-up to be a definite highlight of Master of None's special second season that should not be missed by anyone.

I've never written a review before but this episode has forced me to. Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang have created something truly beautiful. This episode plays on a typical romantic comedy by making it relatable in today's society. The chemistry between Mr Ansari and Ms Mastronardi is flawless. This episode put me on a rollercoaster of emotions and resembled a Ross and Rachel will they won't they situation. I recommend anyone to watch this. There are few episodes of any show that I would say better this one.
