Short summary

As the mastermind and creator of the online social networking phenomenon SpringFace, Lisa is called to trial when Springfield's obsession with the site becomes chaotic and dysfunctional. Lisa recounts her story and explains that she created the site after realizing she had no real friends. But as SpringFace expands and Springfield's fixation with the site causes mass hysteria, Lisa begins to realize that adding thousands of friends online did not compare to having real friendships. Later, Patty and Selma compete against the Winklevoss Twins in the rowing event at the 2012 Olympic Games.

WILHELM SCREAM: The scream is heard twice as Milhouse uses the head cleaver weapon.

A separate, unrelated story, titled "A Simpsons 'Show's Too Short' Story" and animated in the style of Edward Gorey, is shown at the end of the episode.

The title and the story is a reference to The Social Network. Also, SpringFace is a parody of Facebook. The "Floor" is a parody of Facebook's "Wall." Armie Hammer, one of the guest stars in this episode, was one of the actors who performed in The Social Network. He is portraying two real-life characters that were in the film as well.

The chalkboard gag, "We do need no education," is a reference to the lyric "We don't need no education" from the Pink Floyd song "Another Brick in the Wall."

Reverend Lovejoy takes an online quiz to find which Muppet he is and gets Beaker as the result.

The blue-haired lawyer says that SpringFace is the biggest failure since Ask Jeeves, a search engine. Jeeves, the mascot of the UK version of the site, then gets up and walks out, head hung low.

During the 2012 London Summer Olympics with the Winklevoss's, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg can be heard. The same song was also heard in The Social Network in a very similar scene with the Winklevoss twins.

Wilhelm scream: victims of Milhouse using Bart's head cleaver in the video game.
