This film spoofs Hermann, a popular magician at the time.

Paul Terry told the story of how he tried to sell this, his first film. He screened it for Lewis J. Selznick, a producer/distributor, who then offered Terry one dollar a foot. When Terry protested that the film cost him more than a dollar a foot, Selznick replied, "I could pay you more for it if you hadn't put those pictures on it." Eventually, Terry sold it to Thanhouser for $1.35 a foot.
