A young man planning to marry receives a cautionary tale from his bishop based on the sad tale of the bishop's own early romance.

Remade as the second sound film of Greta Garbo, Romance (1930).

Adapted from a Broadway play by Edward Sheldon. The original stage production of "Romance" also starred Doris Keane as Rita Cavallini; it opened at Maxine Elliott's Theatre in New York on Feb. 10, 1913 and ran for 160 performances.

There is a scene where Basil Sydney and Norman Trevor are in the water, waving frantically. They were, in fact, not waving; they were drowning. They were rescued by crew members.
