Short summary

With Peter obsessively stalking Capt. Windmark and manipulating his future, Olivia sets out alone to fetch the next needed item to defeat the Observers - a scrapyard-strength electromagnet. As Walter and Astrid study the behavior of another Observer brain implant to determine what's happening to Peter, Peter learns a lesson from Windmark himself.

Walter mis-remembers Astrid's name yet again; here he calls her "Asner".

The coded glyphs at the commercial breaks spell out PLEAD.

At about 17 minutes Walter is using his contraption to revive the brain to analyze the observer tech. This contraption is made up of (among other things) a couple of microwave oven magnetrons.

Peter is plotting a scheme to kill Captain Windmark. However Etta's apartment is compromised and he needs to flee. Meanwhile Olivia contacts Anil to get an Observer's device to give to Walter to study the effect in Peter. Walter realizes that after a short period, the changes will be permanent. When Walter retrieves another video tape, they learn that they need to retrieve an electromagnet and Olivia decides to go alone. She goes to a junkyard where there is a truck with the electromagnet waiting for her. Then she begins the dangerous journey back to Boston. Later she meets Peter and tells that Etta is alive in their memories expecting to convince him to remove the implant.

"The Human Kind" is another excellent emotional episode of Fringe with the return of Olivia's important participation. Etta has become an important component in this season and Walter's video tapes assigns a mission for the group. Unfortunately the series is ending…My vote is nine.

How do you keep Peter from going off the deep end? Answer? Olivia.

But before that can happen, Olivia needs to be straightened out. At this point, she just does not trust anybody. It's just that she has lost her ability to read others, which she was good at before being dumped into this Dystopian landscape.

Anil gives Olivia an observer-device and she brings it to Walter, which is what Peter should have done. Walter gets out Porcupine-Man's brain and gets to work with Astrid.

Peter of course is still trying to hunt down Windmark, but what he does not realize is that Windmark can do the same thing he has been doing, so the two cancel each other out.

So while he is dealing with that, Olivia goes out to pick up a huge electromagnet for Walter, and she goes to an out of the way place, where they all know who she is. But there is one person there who seems to have developed some Cortexiphan abilities. This is where Olivia has trust issues, because not everyone is out to turn her in to reward-line.

But in her discussion with a great lady played by the equally great Jill Scott who can see things in about people, she realizes she still has some of those same gifts. But on the way back to meet Anil she is waylaid by Highwaymen, who DO want to turn her in. We hear a new word today: "Truth Church"-Apparently these are places the normal folk can meet with Observer-folk and not have minds read. Olivia deftly deals with the Highwaymen, she finds something left by Etta that allows her to overcome them, and this goes with what the Woman had told her: That Etta is inside of them.

Peter runs straight into Windmark, and there is the best Observer-Fight I have ever seen, actually the first Observer-Fight I have ever seen. This was a high point in this episode that shows what Peter can really do, Windmark hurts him but he kills another Fedora-Head who was there with Windmark. The only Observer that Peter can't deal with is Windmark, he's just too good.

This episode shows what the Observer-tech actually does. And it seems to be something that cannot be reversed.

Where Olivia walked AWAY from Peter in the previous episode, she walks TO him in this one, comes to him and talks to him. This also is what she needed to do rather than walk away from him. Peter still has enough humanity in himself to respond,

Where the previous two episodes were rife with mistakes Fringe Division was making, this episode marks them getting back on the right track - And regaining their humanity in the process.

Olivia asks Anil to help her find the device that Peter planted in himself. He shows it to her and she starts to worry more. Two observers point to where Peter is and of course he senses that they are coming for him. The observer sees that Peter has been tracking where he will go even up to the final written piece in the present. Walter looks at more of his video tapes that was found in the amber. Olivia comes in with the news of what Peter has done. Olivia wants to know what Peter will do next so she asks Walter to try help her. Walter tries to call Peter to get him to come back but does not agree to come back. All Walter does is tell no one to go to Etta's apartment and that he is going to go through with a plan. Peter in NewYork is trying to hunt down the observer by going through his daily schedule. Olivia goes off by herself to get a magnet from some site. When left alone Olivia looks around seeing there is cameras especially when someone is suspicious. The seller goes inside and is told to call for someone because Olivia is recognized. Olivia meets with the women in charge who tells her she has been expected. Olivia is leaded to where the magnet is. She is shown the truck Walter left for the team to find, it has the big magnet on the back that Simone's mother believed in so much. Olivia is told that people have been called and that Olivia must be worried. Walter and Astrid experiment on the brain seeing all that is in it. Olivia when offered some water does not trust Simone pulling a gun on her. Peter thinks he is beating the observer but he surprises him by showing up causing the two to fight. Peter is then told what Etta saw last before she died. Peter then disappears leaving the observer to chase after him. Olivia then tells Simone her gift is not much special just before leaving with the magnet. Peter then walks into the lab and Walter wants to observer how he is doing. Peter is transforming more into an observer not feeling much emotion or pain. Peter tells Walter of his whole plan to avenge Etta's death. Olivia is stopped in the middle of the road and taken prisoner in reward for money. Olivia try's to get lose and has to try make a distraction for herself. Olivia has to kill both of the guys who took her. Olivia goes to meet with Peter to try get him to stop going through with his crazy plan. She is told of the plan and still try's to get him to stop so he can stop feeling. He tells her of Etta's last thoughts. Oliva try's and pleads with Peter but his emotions are gone as he becomes more of an observer. Her final words to him are I Love You which brings up all the loving memories in his head making him take out the part he placed inside himself returning to his old self. Great end to an OK episode with some fine moments but the women Simone did not need to be included.
