Short summary

Geeta Choudhary has an abortion in the name of her close friend Rajni Thakur so that Rajni can get married. When her secret leaks out, Geeta's husband Ashok blames her, accuses her of being unfaithful, and drives her out of their home. They have twins, Sunil and Anil. and each parent is allowed custody of one twin. Years later the twins meet at Scout camp and decide to reunite their parents, not realizing that they're exposing their parents and each other to danger and death.

Avm's Do Kaliyan, Rajiv Mehra's Pyar Ke Do Pal and Anil Ganguly's Pyar Ke Kabil, all these 3 films were based on same subject. All were a remake of The Parent Trap.

Rishi Kapoor was doing the film but chucked out by Umesh Mehra due to a problem. . For a revenge, Rishi Kapoor took the same story and told Anil Ganguly to make the same film and release it first. That is how Pyar Ke Kaabil happened .

Rajiv Mehra's 'Pyaar Ke Do Pal' is a childhood favourite of mine. Based on 'Das Doppelte Lottchen', the film may have a dated look but I still find it highly enjoyable and much more preferable to other supposed remakes like the awful 'The Parent Trap' or the amateurish 'Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi'. Now considering that it's an 80's Bollywood flick, there are many flaws were the technical aspect and writing are concerned. For example, the lighting and sound effects are poor and the Lalita Pawar and Bindu characters are caricatures. Plot holes are also apparent and there are plenty of sappy moments. The background score is quite generic.

However, these flaws can easily be overlooked as compared to a majority of studio-backed films of that decade, 'Pyaar Ke Do Pal' is a step in the right direction. The story does make sense despite its flaws. Some of the songs are annoying but I like the title song and 'Daddy Yaad Aati Hai' has been a favourite since childhood.

Mithun Chokroborty and Jaya Prada pitch very good performances. Prada has very often played the long-suffering quiet victim so this is nothing new for her. Chokroborty has also played similar roles (the misunderstanding and resenting husband). Simple Kapadia oozes sensuality with a brilliant performance as the conniving gold-digger.

However, the film belongs to Ashutosh Thakore. It couldn't have been easy for a child to play a role that requires him to be emotive and that too in a double role but this actor just did it so well. I wonder what he's up to these day and why he hasn't pursued a career in acting.

Obviously, 'Pyaar Ke Do Pal' holds nostalgic value for me as it brings back memories. It was fun to walk down that memory lane for a couple of hours.

Pyar Ke Do Pal Directed By Rajiv Mehra is A Family Drama. Direction is Strictly Average. Script is Similar To "Do Kaliyan" Which Was Story Of Twin Girls Bringing Together Their Separated Parents. Screenplay is Below The Mark. Dialogues & Editing Are Fine.

Ashok Chaudary(Mithun Chakraborty) Lives With His Son Anil(Ashutosh Thakur). He Meets Sunil His Lookalike At Scout Camp. Sunil Lives With Hir Mother Geeta(Jaya Prada). Both Sort Out That They Are Twins & Decide To Bring Together Their Parents.

In The Past, Geeta Chowdhary in Order To Assist Her Close Friend Rajni Thakur(Simple Kapadia) Has An Abortion in Her Name, So That Rajni Can Get Married. When Her Secret Gets Leaked Out, Geeta's Husband, Ashok, Blames Her And Drives Her Out Of His House.

Acting By Ashutosh Thakur is Better Than Others . Mithun is Natural. Jaya Prada As Usual Does Better in Emotional Scenes. Amrit Pal & Simple Kapadia Are Just OK.

Music By Annu Malik is Below Average. "Pyar Ke Do Pal"By Shabbir Kumar is Melodious.
